The Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm is an offshore wind power facility comprising 25 wind turbines, each with a rated output of 9,600kW, installed within the port area of Hibikinada. The wind farm has a maximum total output of 220,000kW.
The turbines reach a maximum height of approximately 200 meters from sea level to the tip of the blade. At present, both the output per turbine and the overall scale of the wind farm are the largest in Japan.
In February 2017, a consortium comprising our five shareholder companies was selected as the project operator through a public solicitation by Kitakyushu City. After approximately nine years of development and construction, the wind farm commenced commercial operations on March 2, 2026.
Five companies with local business ties came together for this project. By overcoming differences in corporate culture, drawing on the respective strengths of each company, and taking on numerous challenges through a process of trial and error—with the understanding and cooperation of many people—we truly became “One Team.” This wind farm is the culmination of that collaboration.
With the completion of the Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm, a new landscape has emerged here in Hibikinada.
At the same time, a new challenge toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 has begun here.
The wind farm was given the nickname “Wind KitaQ 25” through a public naming campaign involving local residents. True to this name, we will operate the 25 wind turbines safely and reliably, with the understanding and support of the local community, so that they may become a familiar and enduring symbol of the city. Together with the community, we will continue to pursue our vision of “An Offshore Wind Farm Growing with the Community.”
This nickname was created based on ideas from local residents and our employees.
