Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm Construction Project Receives the JSCE Technology Awards*
- Japan’s Largest Offshore Wind Farm, Overcoming Complex Seabed Topography and Geological Conditions -

*Jointly Awarded to Five Companies: Hibiki Wind Energy, J-POWER, Kyuden Mirai Energy, Penta-Ocean Construction, and Nippon Steel Engineering

The construction site of the Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm featured highly heterogeneous seabed conditions characteristic of Japan, a volcanically active country, with water depths and geological conditions varying significantly from one location to another.

To address these challenging conditions, jacket foundations were adopted for the wind turbines. Three different pile installation methods were selected according to the geological conditions at each location and combined with two types of jacket structures, four-pile and eight-pile configurations, to develop a foundation system capable of safely supporting all 25 large-scale wind turbines.

Throughout the investigation, design, and construction phases, the companies involved in the project worked together to overcome a wide range of technical challenges. In recognition of these technologies and collaborative efforts, the Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm Construction Project received the 2025 Technology Award from the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE).
