Base Port

A base port is a port specifically designated to support the installation, operation, and maintenance of offshore wind power facilities. Its official designation in Japan is a “Base Port for Offshore Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities.”

The construction of offshore wind turbines requires port facilities with sufficient load-bearing capacity and space to handle large and heavy components. The base port serves as a hub for receiving and pre-assembling wind turbine components, loading them onto SEP vessels, and transporting them to the offshore wind turbine installation sites.

* In September 2024, under the Port and Harbor Act, we entered into a lease agreement for the “Kitakyushu Port Base Port Facility for Offshore Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities” with the Kyushu Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and Kitakyushu City.

Lease Agreement Signed for the Kitakyushu Port Base Port Facility for the Installation and Maintenance of the Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm

September 3, 2024

Today, at Kitakyushu City Hall, the Kyushu Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Kitakyushu City, and our company entered into a lease agreement for the “Kitakyushu Port Base Port Facility for Offshore Renewable Energy Power Generation Facilities” under the Port and Harbor Act.
We are currently constructing the Kitakyushu Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm in the Hibikinada area off the coast of Wakamatsu-ku, Kitakyushu City. The installation and subsequent maintenance of wind power facilities require port facilities such as Kitakyushu Port that offer sufficient load-bearing capacity and space to handle large and heavy equipment and materials. For this reason, we have entered into a lease agreement for the Kitakyushu Port Base Port Facility.
This is the second such base port lease agreement in Japan and the first in Kyushu.
Going forward, we will use the base port to receive and pre-assemble wind turbine components. From April 2025 onward, we plan to install and commission the wind turbines offshore, with the aim of commencing commercial operations during fiscal 2025.
We will continue to move the project forward with safety as our highest priority while giving due consideration to the surrounding environment.
